What is Genetics? | AMNH

After some consideration, I will be discussing the future of embryos if gene editing will become a reality. The changing of embryos is a very controversial topic as scientists are playing god with nature. Scientists have been striving to achieve this goal of gene editing. In their point of view, this would be able to grow human civilization to an extent that humans now are unable to reach now. If this gene editing becomes a service to consumers, people can change their child's DNA to be faster or smarter. While this can be seen as a remarkable achievement, numerous ethical problems arise from this editing. For one, will this create a superiority of the people who are biologically changed amongst natural borns? People very well could be separated in society as natural borns might find it quite more challenging to keep up with biologically changed humans. Will the ability to acquire this process being done only be limited to the amount of money a person has? Or will it be a lottery system that rewards the lucky few chosen? Then there's the concern of how this might cause future mutations from happening? These mutations could be deadly or harmless. But regardless, it opens up Pandora's box as scientists can not predict the side effects. Scientists has expressed if they do cause new mutations to be created. They will be able to fix the problem with time. As a benefit of this process. Scientists will be able to cut out bad mutations that are known to cause certain problems. This will kill the mutation at the origin. Gene modification in human embryos is a challenging topic to dissect as it changes the reality of today. That is why I look forward to finishing my paper three on this topic.
